Update to Area Soccer Round Up Week of October 2

Regis/McDonnell

Regis had a nice win earlier this week over Marshfield Columbus 2-1.  Scores by John Wampler assisted by Bill Wapler, yes, twin brothers. Also, Zach Yengo continues his fine form with a second half game winner.  They stand at 6-3-3 on the year (I think!) and play later today against Arcadia.

Big Rivers Conference: Updated after Tuesday Games

Here is an update on the conference as we move into the second half of the conference calendar.  Things are taking shape with Memorial and Hudson in the best spot to win conference.

School                      Record

EC Memorial            9-0-1       CONFERENCE CHAMPS 2017

Hudson                    6-3-0

Chippewa Falls        5-3-1

Rice Lake                 4-4-2

EC North                  3-5-2

River Falls                2-6-1

Menomonie              0-8-1

Surprise result of the week: Some interesting results.  North securing a tie against Chippewa Falls is a good result for North.  Menomonie hanging with Rice Lake and losing only 1-0 is a good result for Menomonie.

Teams to watch: Hudson and Chippewa.  They are chasing second place and more importantly, seeding for the post season.  A big game tonight that might determine 2nd in conference.  Hudson coming off a strong performance against Memorial looks favored unless they have a let down after a tough loss.  CF can be great with their GK but has not been consistent this year. As well, in the playoffs, don’t sleep on North.  They are playing better, and have a dangerous striker to contend with.

Schedule for the week.

Tuesday, October 3:

Memorial v. Hudson                Final Memorial 3-1      Game of the Week

North v Chippewa Falls          Final 2-2

Menomonie v Rice Lake         Final Rice Lake 1-0

Thursday, October 5:

Memorial v Menomonie

River Falls v North

Chippewa Falls v Hudson

UW-Eau Claire Women

The Blugolds are 10 games in their season and had been on a nice winning streak after a slow start to the season.  They traveled to Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday and unfortunately, their winning streak of 4 games ended.  Gustavis scored a goal in each half and doubled the shots on goal to win 2-0.  Let;s hope Coach Yengo and then Blugolds get another streak started as they move back into conference for their next game.  Season record stands at 4-5-1 and 1-0 in conference.

Next Game: Saturday October 7 v. UW-Whitewater at 5:00 (Away Game).  Can we get another streak started!

Looks to be a challenge as Whitewater is 7-2-3 on the year with an early season win over Gustavis Adolphus.
