Premier League Week 34/35 Recap

Manchester City or Liverpool…who you got? In an interesting twist, the two teams are off cycle on their games played. Liverpool is one game ahead of Manchester City. So for the past 3-4 weeks, the two teams have bounced back and forth in the standings. Liverpool takes a 2 point lead, but then Manchester City wins their next game and takes a 1 point lead. Only 3-4 games left and I think the first team that blinks loses. A draw or a loss and the Title hopes are gone. This past week Manchester City eeked out a 1- win over Tottenham but then Liverpool took down Cardiff City on Sunday to resume the lead. This likely goes down to the final day of the league on May 12th. The game that might decide the title…the Manchester Derby coming up next week on Wednesday. The emotion of the day may push United to keep City out of the winning column. It should be an interesting game especially after United looked awful in a weekend loss to Everton. They need a redemption game! Liverpool will be cheering hard for United!!

The Top 4 Race is equally as dramatic, with big swings week to week as well. Let’s look at the big moves this week.

Manchester United with a humiliating 4-0 loss to Everton to keep them in 6th place. The remaining three clubs had a win, but then each lost a game so the Top 4 remains in flux. Two of these 4 will make Champions League and two will be hugely disappointed.

Lets take a closer look at the top game of the week, Manchester City v. Tottenham. An early Man City goal and then a string a big saves. And then…a bit of controversy. Hand ball….no hand ball. It is a tough call, but could be the difference in the title race. I can tell you Liverpool fans across the world think the call was blown. The announcers all felt hand ball. But no call and Man City hangs on.

Race for the Title & Champions League Top 4

Win-Loss-Tie

1- Liverpool   27-1-7 88 Points. 33 Games

2- Manchester City 28-4-2. 86 Points. 34 Games

3- Tottenham  22-11-1   67 Points.  34 games.

4-Arsenal  20-8-6   66 Points. 34 Games

5-Chelsea   20-8-6  66 Points.   34 Games

6-Manchester United     19-8-7   64 Points. 34 games

3 points separate places 3-4-5-6. Crazy! Everton, Watford, Leicester City and Wolverhampton round out the Top 10.

Relegation Zone

There is now 1 team within 3 points of the 18th position and fighting to stay up, Brighton. Cardiff City is in the last relegation spot but still has a chance to leap frog Brighton (34 points) and Southampton (36 points). Two teams are now officially relegated and will return to the Championship league next year. The new bottom three:

18. Cardiff City 31 Points. Still have a chance but need to make up 3 points on the 17th spot.

19. Fulham 23 Points. RELEGATED

20.  Huddersfield 14 Points. RELEGATED

Cardiff City will need a small miracle, at minimum 2 wins but probably a team above them to just fall apart.
